My Story
My knee pain started about two months after a really bad car accident I was in. I was rear-ended by two cars, which made me rear-end another car in front of me. Basically, my knee hit the dashboard really hard. At first, I was tolerating the pain and thought that maybe it was just age-related. But when it started getting worse, I asked if I could get an MRI and seek more intensive treatment for my knee because I was in so much pain.
They found that I had a tear in my meniscus and they wanted to see if the pain would go away on its own. But that didn’t happen to me. It actually got to the point where I had to wear knee braces because it felt like my knee was coming apart. I had to ice my knee every single day, I had to elevate it all the time, even to sleep.
Before the accident, I enjoyed things like Zumba and going on long walks with my dog. But after the accident, my activity level was highly impacted, I couldn’t jump around anymore, even going upstairs was very hard for me. It was really bad.

Thank God I had the surgery. Dr. Tort was really able to help me, and he did an excellent job. Thanks to him I can get back to Zumba again, go on long walks with my dogs, and have no problem walking upstairs like a normal person now. So I’m very, very happy. It’s a big, big difference. My life is a lot easier now — like how it was before the accident.
Everyone at Florida Spine and Joint Institute was very sweet people, the staff was very nice and friendly. They’re willing to help you with scheduling and getting the information that you need. Even with the paperwork I needed for work with the surgery, they filled it out very quickly. They’re pretty amazing.
If anyone needs to go and see them for spine, knee, or hip, I’d definitely recommend them. Dr. Tort was amazing with the surgery—all the doctors were. They did a fantastic job, and the staff was very sweet and caring. Above all, I just want to say thank you to Dr. Tort for taking care of my knee.
